The Modiolus Restoration Plan was developed in 2005 by the former Department of the Environment (DOE) and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), now the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA). This was followed by a first revision of the restoration plan in 2012 and a second revision in 2015. The overall aim of the restoration plan is to restore Modiolus modiolus biogenic reef to favourable conservation status. The plan is comprised of three work packages; Protection, Intervention and Monitoring.
