Summary
Water Framework Directive Priority Substances and Classification Regulations
Documents
Consultation description
The Department is proposing to produce a consolidated set of Regulations which incorporate the relevant parts of the two Priority Substances Directives and the relevant parts of the current Northern Ireland Regulations which set out the Water Framework Directive (WFD) classification schemes. The primary driver behind the exercise is to transpose Directive 2013/39/EU (the Directive) which relates to priority substances. The WFD classification schemes and standards and the relevant parts of the original Priority Substances Directive are currently set out in The Water Framework Directive (Priority Substances and Classification) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2011 (as amended in 2012 and 2015).
The Department also proposes to adopt the Estuarine Multi-metric Fish Index (EMFI) WFD Classification Tool in the second WFD cycle.
