Noise complaint statistics for Northern Ireland 2017-2018

Noise complaints received by district councils between 1 April 2017 and 31 March 2018 have fallen by 3% according to a report published today by the Department of Agriculture Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA).
Figures collated by local council areas show that a total of 11,766 complaints were received in 2017/18, down 3% compared to the previous year (12,105).
Domestic noise, which includes loud music, televisions, parties and noisy animals accounted for 81% of all noise complaints, according to the latest statistics.
The report’s findings show that the majority of complaints to councils concern the following types of noise:
- Domestic noise - 81%
- Commerce and Leisure - 8%
- Noise in the street - 4%
- Construction - 3%
- Industry - 2%
- Transport - 2%

- The domestic noise sources most complained about in 2017/18 are loud music, televisions and parties which accounted for 43% of domestic noise complaints. Animal noise represents 36% and other neighbourhood noise was the cause of a further 15% of domestic noise complaints.
