- zoom in up to 200% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
- navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
- clearly understand the content and instructions of the website.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
How accessible this website is
We know some parts of this website aren't fully accessible:
- some older PDF documents may not be fully accessible
- some labels for identifying form inputs are missing
- some keyboard users may experience erratic behaviour when tabbing through pages (due to setting of positive tabindexes)
- there are some colour contrast issues on table rows
- tooltips are used to show and hide information which some users may find difficult to use
- after a period of inactivity, the user will be signed out without warning
- users can tab to items in the parent window when pop-up windows are open
- landmark tags, which help identifying regions on a page, are missing

Technical information about this website's accessibility
DAERA is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
Issues with technology
- Glyphicons used for previous next buttons have tabindexes alongside aria-hidden="true" - hidden elements should not be focusable (1.1.1 Non-text Content)
- Use of positive tab indexes causing erratic behaviour when tabbing through form fields (1.3.2 Meaningful Sequence)
- Colour contrast fails for red/green rows of Comparison table - stylesheet issue to be addressed (1.3.2 Contrast Minimum)
- Tooltips are used, but are not dismissable (without moving the pointer or keyboard focus) or hoverable (pointer can be moved without additional content disappearing) (1.4.13 Content on Hover or Focus, 2.4.3: Focus Order)
- Session times out after set period - no method to adjust or extend, and no warning given to users. (2.2.1 Timing Adjustable)
- A 'skip to main content' link has been included but is broken - Broken link on skip to main content (2.4.1 Bypass Blocks)
- Modal window does not trap focus – you should NOT be able to tab to items in parent window whilst open (3.2.1 On Focus)
- No main landmark and all page content should be contained by landmarks. Ensure landmarks are unique. Header nav and footer nav should be distinguished with aria-label (4.1.2: Name, Role, Value)
Issues with text
- Select element (Welcome page) must have accessible name (1.1.1 Non-text Content, 3.3.2: Labels or Instructions)
- Enter data page - Orphaned or missing form labels (milk price) (1.1.1 Non-text Content, 3.3.2: Labels or Instructions)
Issues with PDFs and other documents
- The auto-generated PDF does not pass a number of accessibility requirements. The codebase for generating the PDF pre-dates September 2018, and the PDF content is also available to the user in HTML format.
- Accessibility regulations don't require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they're not essential to providing our services.
Issues with images, video and audio
- No known issues
Issues with interactive tools and transactions
- No known issues
How we tested this website
This website was last tested on 04/07/2024. The test was carried out by DAERA Digital Services Division.
We chose to test all pages within the application. The pages were tested for code compliance using the Axe and WAVE (Web Accessibility Evaluation Tool) Chrome extensions and NVDA screen reader. The pages also underwent manual testing to ensure they adhered to the four Accessibility principles (Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, Robust).
We tested:
- Privacy
- Welcome
- Enter data
- View data
- Comparison table
- DAERADMOC.pdf
The accessibility evaluation report can be made available on request.
What we're doing to improve accessibility
The Department is actively engaged in improving the accessibility of its applications. As part of our 'UX Checklist', we require developers to design software with accessibility compliance built in. In those circumstances where compliance cannot be met, reasons for this should be documented, along with steps for addressing issues. We also carry out user research to ascertain user requirements and conduct usability workshopping before launching new applications.
This statement was prepared on 23 March 2021. It was last updated on 9 July 2024.
